Preparation
In a large frying pan, heat butter and vegetable oil over medium-low heat.
Add sliced onions and mushrooms to the pan, stirring frequently for approximately 10 minutes until the vegetables are golden and tender. Remove vegetables from pan and set aside.
Increase heat to medium-high and add beef strips to the same pan, cooking for about 5 minutes while stirring occasionally until the meat is browned on all sides.
Pour American Garden Natural Apple Cider Vinegar over the beef strips, allowing it to deglaze the pan and pick up all the flavorful brown bits.
Add beef stock, American Garden U.S. Mustard Original, and bay leaf to the pan. Season generously with salt and Black Pepper.
Return the mushrooms and onions to the pan and cook for 3 minutes until the mixture is bubbling and the flavors begin to meld.
Reduce heat to low and stir in sour cream and chopped parsley, mixing gently to create a smooth, creamy sauce.
Remove bay leaf before serving and garnish with fresh parsley leaves.
Serve immediately over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes for the complete beef stroganoff experience.
What Are the Key Cooking Tips for Beef Stroganoff?
Don’t overcrowd the beef when searing. Work in batches if necessary to achieve that beautiful golden crust. Always remove the pan from heat before adding sour cream to prevent curdling. Let the sour cream come to room temperature before adding for the smoothest integration. The bay leaf adds subtle depth, but don’t forget to remove it before serving!
How Should You Store Your Beef Stroganoff?
Preserve your beef stroganoff quality with proper storage:
- Store leftovers in refrigerator for up to 3 days in airtight containers
- Reheat gently over low heat to prevent sour cream from separating
- Add a splash of beef stock when reheating if sauce becomes too thick
- Freeze without sour cream for up to 2 months, adding cream when reheating
- Keep sauce and noodles separate if storing for next day serving
